Your Finances & Credit Reports
First, check out your credit score and set up the
monitoring system to keep track of inquiries and
possible identity theft at Equifax
. The 3-
in-1
program will provide you with all the tools you need
(and a $20,000 insurance policy) to maintain your
good credit standing.
Second, if you dont already own it, purchase
Quicken . This financial tool will not only make
tax
season a snap, but will show you how you are
spending your money (this can prove to be a shock!)
and will help you set up a budget so that you can
decrease or avoid credit card debt.
To pay
your
monthly bills painlessly, sign up for the FREE
MyCheckFree.com service. You are notified by
email that a new invoice has been received and
simply have to click on "pay bill" to make your
payment.
Next, read the financial books written by David
Bach Start Late, Finish Rich: A No-
Fail Plan for Achieving Financial Freedom at Any
Age , and Smart Women Finish
Rich: 9 Steps to Achieving
Financial
Security and Funding Your Dreams . These two
books alone can put you on the right track.
Getting a financial advisor is a good idea, but please
check around with others as to who they use and
their satisfaction level. One of the things I learned
the hard way is that some advisors make a lot of
money switching your holdings frequently throughout
the year so as to make commissions. Ask a lot of
questions, and interview the financial gurus in
person.
Women, if you are thinking of a career
change or just going back into the work force, check
out Women for Hire. It is an awesome
organization just for women which offers career
expos across the country throughout the year. If
you have any specific questions about the group,
please email my contact, Michelle
Atkins.
