Books about divorce to lead you through the divorce process and your new single life.
The books about divorce, which I will place on this page, will address two areas of concern: practical matters and emotional well being.
Congratulations on Your Divorce is a very practical, hands-on manual which will answer any question that you might have from separation to finalization of the divorce and re-entering the single world.
Crazy Time addresses the emotional roller coaster ride that comes with separation and divorce.
I will add other books periodically, so please continue to check back or make recommendations of your own for us to review!
Out of all the books about divorce that I have read, this particular one is the most thorough in its scope and offers the author's wise advice starting at the beginning stages of the divorce process through to the "moving on" happily ever after period. My favorite portions were "Lessons Learned", at the end of each chapter, which offered sage pieces of advice that will save readers from taking the hard, and off-course road of experience.
Amy has done her readers a huge favor by providing detailed information as to what to expect and what to avoid.
This book has been around for over twenty years because the advice is timeless. The author, Sandra Kahn, describes the various stages of divorce, dating, and moving on which will make the reader realize that all of the surrealness which he/she has experienced is quite normal and necessary to get to the end goal of sanity and a better life.
I have personally recommended this book since I first read it in 1985. I was going through my first divorce and felt totally out of control. Everything about my life had changed: my residence was sold, my job as stay-at-home mom had converted to that of a full-time career gal, the time I spent with my children had diminished, and my social circle had become much smaller.
Knowing that I was not alone, and I was actually the norm versus the exception, was liberating! The book allowed me to relax knowing which emotions and feelings to anticipate, yet reminding me that everything I was experiencing would soon pass and ultimately, there really WAS a light at the end of the tunnel!
